The Ada County Free Library District was officially established in August, 1984 to provide library services for residents in Ada County by contracting for services at the five established city libraries in the valley. It later became known as the Ada Community Library. The Ada Community Library - Star branch was opened on November 23, 1988, at the Star Senior Center located at 102 S. Main Street. The Librarians during this time were: Julie (Wilbur) Smith from 1988 to 1990; Aimee (Feiling) Cizmich from 1990 to 1992 and Ellen Druckenbrod from 1992 to 1995 when Cheryl (Kinder) Parris took over as Librarian from 1995 until November of 2001.
From December 10, 1996 to September 30, 2001, the Star Branch Library moved to the Hall Building located at 11152 State Street to accommodate the expanding needs of the community. They now were able to offer after school activities for students and child development programs.
The Library was moved to its present location at 10706 W. State Street (Mira Plaza) on October 1, 2001 and was able to add a children’s wing to their facility in October 2002. At its present location the Library has had three managers, Laura McNew from November 2001 through June 2003; Cheri Rendler from June 2003 through May 2005; and current branch manager Joy Lear since May 2005.
The Library offers many services and programs to the community of Star. They are now part of a consortium of
eight valley library systems, which allow them access to books they may not have on their shelves. Adult and
teen patrons have access to twelve computers and an additional 4 laptops which can be checked out for wireless
use inside the library and there are an additional four in the children’s area. Teens may also access a laptop
lab in the Star Library annex during after school hours. Patrons are able to access free data bases for school
help, genealogy studies, automotive repair, and more; as well as download audio and e-books. They offer DVD,
videogame and magazine checkouts. The Library staff offers programs for preschoolers, school-age children,
teens and book discussion groups for adults. Throughout the year various guest speakers, musicians, craft
