JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Seasonal Grounds Maintenance Workers
Job Summary
The City of Star is accepting applications for two seasonal positions in the Building and Grounds Maintenance Department. These positions typically run from March 1 through October 31, but may be extended up to five months based on department needs.
We are looking for candidates who are:
- Hardworking
- Of good moral character
- In possession of a valid Idaho Driver’s License
- Willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends or holidays if needed
Essential Duties
Grounds Maintenance Workers help keep City parks, buildings, and public areas clean, safe, and visually appealing.
Job responsibilities may include:
- Mowing, edging, and fertilizing lawns
- Weeding and mulching landscape beds
- Trimming hedges, shrubs, and small trees
- Removing damaged or dead trees
- Planting flowers, trees, and shrubs
- Watering lawns and landscaped areas
- Monitoring and maintaining plant health
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Basic landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment
- Construction and repair methods
- Safe work practices
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a valid Idaho Class D Driver’s License
- Pass a pre-employment background check, including:
- Criminal history check
- Drug screening
- Reference check
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States
Work Schedule
Typical schedule is Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Workdays are 8 hours; positions are 40 hours per week
Occasional evening, weekend, holiday, or overtime work may be required
On-call duty may be assigned on a monthly rotation
Work Locations
This position works in:
- City-owned parks and buildings
- Landscaped public areas
- Public right-of-way locations (including some privately owned areas open to public access, such as irrigation easements)
Physical Requirements
This is a physically active, outdoor position.
Duties require:
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds
- Bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Performing general maintenance tasks
